Of the essence or fleeting moment, how do you document time? Poets David Brazil, Rob Halpern, and Stephen Ratcliffe make like sand through the hourglass and muse on the hour and minute in this fourth installation of the Canessa Gallery Reading Series.

David Brazil was born in New York and lives in California. He co-edits TRY! magazine with Sara Larsen. Some of his writing was recently published in a book called The Book Called Spring from Portable Press.

Rob Halpern is the author of Rumored Place, Imaginary Politics, and Snow Sensitive Skin (co-authored with Taylor Brady). Disaster Suites is forthcoming any day now from Palm Press. Additionally, Halpern is currently co-editing the writings of the late Frances Jaffer together with Kathleen Fraser, and translating the early essays of Georges Perec. He lives in San Francisco.

Stephen Ratcliffe's _REAL_, 474 pages written in 474 consecutive days, was published by Avenue B in 2007. Two more recent manuscripts, _CLOUD / RIDGE_ (also 474 pages) and HUMAN / NATURE (1,000 pages), appear in ubu editions' "Publishing the Unpublishable" series (www.ubu.com). Other books include _Portraits & Repetition_ (The Post-Apollo Press, 2002) and _SOUND/ (system)_ (Green Integer, 2002). Listening to Reading, a collection of essays on contemporary 'experimental' poetry and poetics, was published by SUNY Press in 2000. On June 6, 2008, he read all 1,000 pages of HUMAN / NATURE during a 14-hour reading at UC Davis. He lives in Bolinas and teaches at Mills College in Oakland.
